After being in sunny Florida on the previous leg we decided it was time to get back to the freezer.

This week we kicked off the Great Lakes leg of the tour and headed from Boulder to Minneapolis.

Here is a little pre-view of our trip.

South East Triple Sell Out

Well, the South East leg of the tour is definitely off to a great start.

Our first ever show in Nashville brought out one of the biggest crowds east of the Rockies. The guys at Fly South told us they were going to give the shops on the west coast a run for their money and they definitely brought their A game and the Belcourt Theater was filled to capacity.

The Plaza Theater in Atlanta reached max capacity as well. We want to thank the Fish Hawk, Cohutta Fishing Company and the Patagonia Store of Atlanta for selling advance tickets prior to our arrival. The crowd was fantastic and the show was awesome. The only problem is that Jay still is having trouble finding some boiled peanuts, but we have a day off for him to work his way into the underground Georgia peanut cartel.

We will be heading east over to Charleston SC for the show on Thursday. Online ticket sales are sold out for the Charleston show, but their still may be a few tickets available at the Charleston Angler.

Salt Lake City Show Tonight

The salt Lake City Show is officially SOLD OUT for tonight at the Tower Theater.

There may be a few rogue tickets available at Western Rivers the Patagonia outlet store and Fishwest. I would suggest giving these locations a call before making the drive to see if they still have any tickets. (The Tower Theater does NOT have tickets)

Plans are already underway to expand the show for the Salt Lake valley in 2011.

Seattle and Portland are in the history books for 2010. Great shows and great people. McMenamins Bagdad Theater is one of the coolest theaters on the planet. It also helps that you can order a pizza and a pitcher and bring it to your seat while you watch the show.

Portland was definitely off the hook and will go down as the biggest show to date on the tour so far.

We would like to give a shout out to the Sierra Club, Save Our Wild Salmon, The Native Fish Society, TU and FFF. It is great to have those folks show up with us at the theaters and we love to make room for them side by side with us out in the lobby. A big thank you to all these organizations that are helping spread the word about the film tour.

We still have a way to go on this years schedule but we hear that the dirty south is working hard to take the podium for 2010, particularly Nashville TN. Were just hoping that the snow will be melted by the time we get there.

Three more shows to go in the NW before we head down to Boise and then on to SLC.

Tour Update

Playing a little catch up on the blog post. We had back to back to back shows through Montana before heading over to Spokane.

The shows have been packed and we are getting fantastic reviews from those coming out of the theater after the show. The great thing is that we are hearing an overall satisfaction with the mix between salt and fresh water films. From Jackson to Western Australia or Canada to Argentina we pretty much have the global tour North to South, East to West on this years tour.

We have been meeting great people along the way, and honestly for the crew this is one of our own personal highlights on the road. There are too many names to mention at this point but we thank all of you, especially our sponsors and the local fly shops who have given us their support. If you have been to any of the shows this far stop in to your fly shop and thank them for helping to bring the tour to your city.

The highlight for today was getting our own private tour from Don and Kent over at Dry Fly Distillery in Spokane. Watching and learning how these two master craftsmen turn wheat into vodka, or juniper into gin was better than any field trip on the planet. Now if they could just figure out how to bottle the sweet scent of distilling wheat as an air freshener they could probably run Bath & Body out of business. The aroma is the first thing that grabs your attention when you walk through the door, although it probably wouldn't do so well as a car freshener. The sampling part of the tour was both educational and tasty. To put it bluntly Don and Kent are supper bad ass, and so are their spirits.

Kicking off the tour at Patagonia has has been our tradition ever since our first show there four years ago.

Both shows played to sold out crowds and we were sad to turn away so many people at the door in Ft. Collins.

It was a crazy night in the Fort and while it was a bummer that we could not fit everyone into the theater it was great to see the support show up and rally the show the way the crowd did. And yes, we are already planning on a larger venue for next year. For those who were not able to get a seat it is a short drive to Denver on Saturday where we will have 2 shows. Showtime for the first screening will be at 4:00PM followed by an 8:00PM screening

The 2010 Drake Magazine Fly Fishing Film Tour officially kicks off a week from today.

The schedule is updated, tickets are on sale and new shows are being added on a weekly basis.

This years tour is already shaping up to be the biggest tour ever with new East Coast and Mid West venues. Plus more shows in Canada, and it will even be heading to Santiago Chile!

Tickets are available on our website and at many local fly shops across the country. Check the schedule page to see what shops are selling tickets in your area.

Venues are filling up so if you haven't pulled the trigger on buying your ticket, or if your waiting to get your ticket at the door you may want to think about getting that ticket in advance. Judging by pre sales so far this years tour is bound to have more sell out shows than ever before.

We are getting oh so close to launching the 2010 Fly Fishing Film tour.

Final decision on the selections for the line up for this years program will be announced soon.

Everyone is anxious to find out who made the cut this year. It has not been an easy decision. I am amazed each year as new film makers seem to come out of no where and drop our jaws. Everyone who submitted a film deserves to take a bow.

This year the tour will feature more exclusive content than ever before. The only place you will be able to see some of these films will be if you buy a ticket to the show.

Tickets will start to go on sale the week of December 21st. We will be rolling out the shows and adding them to the ticketing page as the month goes on.

We will be bringing some goods with us out on the road this year. Tour t-shirts are back along with a sick tour hoodie (designed by Bugslinger Fly Gear) . We are stoked that Buff has partnered with the tour and we will have some custom Tour Buffs for all you pirates out there.

In addition we will be launching our new tour program. A 32 page "mini magazine" The Stonefly, featuring write ups on all the film makers, their films as well as photo essays and articles by some notable fly fishing writers.

In addition to buying your ticket online, we have been working with many fly shops across the country to offer discounted tickets to the show. Check with your local fly shop to see if they have tickets starting next week.

Not Long Now - 2010 Film Tour Update

Now that it's November and there is a chill in the air here in the rockies, this can only mean one thing. The 2010 Fly Fishing Film Tour will be hitting the road soon.
Venues are being booked, film submissions are being screened, posters are being printed.

The schedule will be up on the site shortly and tickets will go on sale around December 1st.

There have been some amazing submissions so far but the deadline is still a few weeks away and we know that there are some film makers out there who are hiding in the wood work pushing it to the last minute.

As the film tour evolves every year and so do the film makers. Films are being submitted from every corner of the globe. There will be some epic international footage as well as footage from the U.S. that will show how we still have some of the most phenomenal fishing opportunities right here under our own feet.
Announcement of the film tour line up will happen in mid December and all indications show that you will not be disappointed.

The Drake Magazine Fly Fishing Film Tour announce the 2010 Call For Entries!

The Fly Fishing Film Tour, produced by The Drake Magazine and Mayfly Media, is the largest fly fishing film festival in the country. The 2010 film tour will make stops in 80+ cities across the United States.

F3T is open to ALL film makers, beginners, hacks, armatures or professional.

Okay, so here's the deal. We aren't looking for Joe Blow's 10 minute handy cam video footage of his big fish that he raked off the river bottom, and we aren't looking for the all too familiar and overdone Saturday morning cable program "here's my big lodge and this is my celebrity guest who we are going to teach how to fish" footage either. We are seeking out the coolest, baddest, most unique fly fishing films that go far beyond the instructional elements to showcase and celebrate the creative, fun side of the fly fishing culture.

Requirements for film submission:

Submissions can be any length up to a 20 minute maximum.
Film submissions must be fly fishing related
Submissions must include the following;

1. Fully edited film tour submission up to 20 minutes long
2. 30 second max end credits for film credits and sponsor mentions
(Sponsor mentions must be at end of film in end credits only)
3. Teaser Trailer up to 5 minutes long to be uploaded on TV.flyfishingfilmtour.com.
4. Film Maker photo or film company logo
5. Photo stills from film (5 minimum)
6. 500 word description of film

The Fly Fishing Film Tour heads to Atlanta!

The Fly Fishing Film tour will be making its debut for the first time in Georgia at the SweetWater Brewing Company in Atlanta on Saturday June 27th.
This show will be a 21+ older only event (sorry kids, valid ID required) and will include a souvenir SweetWater pint glass, tours of the brewery as well as tastings of SweetWater Brew. Did you get that? Your ticket includes samplings of the brew at SweetWater Brewery. That means you dont have to go out to the pub before the show.
We are setting up an outdoor amphitheater that will seat 350 people and project the program on a giant 25 foot inflatable screen.

Teva Mountain Games

The Teva Mountain Games are just a week away from kicking off in Vail Colorado. The games incorporated a fly casting competition a few years back and it has grown from a handful of entrants in the beginning days to nearly a hundred. The semi finals puts the top 25 casters in front of a thousand people.
The competition is sponsored by Costa Del Mar Sunglasses. It incorporates the typical distance/accuracy qualifying round but then moves on to moving water for some serious accuracy challenges. 8 finalist move on to compete for the trophy in a fly fishing 2 fly competition where they have to actually put their skills up against the undeniable and unforgiving trout judge.
Over $2000 cash and some killer schwag are up for grabs.

New to the games this year is the Outdoor Reels film festival. Participating films include: Teva's Grand Canyon Adventure: Rivers at Risk, Fly Fishing Film Tour, Costa Del Mar's Blue Highway, and Telluride Mountain Film Tour: Zero Emissions Tour. All films will be presented and shown at the International Ball Room at the Lodge at Vail with a cash bar open during all shows.
The Fly Fishing Film Tour will be showing on Friday June 5th at 8:45pm.
The films are free admission but a donation to the TU chapter of a few bucks at the door would be appreciated.

Rumor has it this guy was not alone

The Alamo Draft House was packed to the gills last Friday. Literally not a seat left in the house. A first time stop on the schedule for the film tour and plans are already in place for next years showing in Austin.
This is a great story because it shows the potential that an Independent Promoter has at their fingertips. Tosh Brown and his crew of volunteers pulled off what has to be one of the greatest shows for 2009.

"Well, we pulled it off. Based on our prelim numbers, this little gig injected about $18,000 into the local fly fishing community. Not a bad stimulus package."
